Iyengar yoga is based on the teachings of BKS Iyengar (India, 1918-2014). This lineage of yoga practice is known for its clarity and specificity of instruction, sequencing and timing of poses. Iyengar yoga also uses therapeutic adaptations and use of props (blocks, belts, blankets and more) – which gives access to yoga poses to all who practice.
As well, Iyengar yoga is not just a physical practice, but is primarily considered a spiritual practice. As part of a classic system of health, one may use yoga practice to delve deeply into the physical, mental, energetic and more subtle, spiritual bodies.
People come to yoga practice for varying reasons. Some come to yoga to help with injuries, strengthening, relaxation or frankly, short hamstrings. Others may be looking for a spiritual and transformational practice. Whatever your personal interest in yoga practice, Iyengar yoga can meet you exactly where you are.
